The overall objective of the Master's program is to enable students to acquire a thorough theoretical understanding and practical skills, which can be immediately applied to various diagnostic and therapeutic fields upon completion of the course.
The theoretical training will be provided by leading experts and will comprise five modules:
(a) Clinical presentation, diagnosis, epidemiology, neuropsychology, and guidelines;
(b) Biological bases for understanding autism and its treatment;
(c) Early intensive rehabilitation intervention, behavioral intervention, parent training, augmentative and alternative communication;
(d) Medical issues: comorbidities, psychopharmacological intervention, hospital management, organization of health services;
(e) School, transition into adulthood, life plan management, employment, sexuality, and life as an elderly.
These 300 hours of lectures will be taught in blended mode (in-person and remote), but a minimum attendance rate of at least 30% of the lessons is required in-person, allowing all participants to have direct contact with the teachers and practical activities. To encourage participation, this 30% will be guaranteed through two one-week "full immersion" blocks of lectures, while the remaining lessons will be held on Friday and Saturday mornings.
Practical professional training activities will be carried out, depending on the professional profile (MDs specialists in child neuropsychiatry or psychiatry, psychologists, therapists, pedagogists, professional educators, nurses), not only at approved centers located near the participants' place of residence, but also through in-person and/or remotely supervised internships in the following areas:
(1) Psychodiagnostics of autism (tests and questionnaires), with final certification;
(2) Basic Course for Behavioral Therapists (ABA), with final certification;
(3) Early Start Denver Model operator training course and subsequent two-year supervision with clinical certification at the end of the program (course and first year of supervision are covered by the Master's program, the second year until final certification is covered by the participant);
(4) Training course for the use of the psychoeducational approach: From assessment to intervention in adulthood, with final certification.
(5) Autism medical and psychopharmacology clinic (case discussion, with final certification).
This theoretical and practical training course is structured to provide up-to-date and effective skills that can be immediately applied by various professionals within multidisciplinary teams working in Institutions that care for children, adolescents, or adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
