The TOLC (Cisia Online Test) is a computer-based test organised by the Interuniversity Consortium for Integrated Access Systems (CISIA), which the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia has also joined.
For some first-level degree programmes with limited enrolment (three-year bachelor's degrees and single-cycle master's degrees), you must take this test to be included in the ranking list and enrol.
In other degree programmes, however, it is only an orientation tool, not a prerequisite for enrolment, used to assess the minimum knowledge required for admission to a specific programme and, if necessary, assign you additional learning requirements (OFA).
You can prepare for the entrance tests for free with thefaculty, the app selected by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
Please refer to the list below of degree programmes with restricted access for which it is necessary to take the TOLC in order to be included in the ranking and enrol. Read the call for applications carefully and take note of the deadline by which you must have taken the TOLC, as well as any minimum passing score that may apply.
For information on open-access degree programmes where the TOLC is used as a guidance tool and, if applicable, for the allocation of OFA, please refer to the webpage of the Department responsible for the degree programme.

Registration for the TOLC is carried out online via the CISIA website www.cisiaonline.it/TOLC and requires payment of €35 to CISIA.
To take the TOLC, you must register in advance of the test date, according to the deadlines set by CISIA. You may take the same TOLC multiple times in order to improve your score and compete in the ranking. The highest score you achieve will be taken into account.
You may take the TOLC at any university participating in CISIA, including one different from the university where you intend to enrol.
All the relevant information is provided in the call for applications.
In brief, the main steps are as follows:
- Register on the website www.esse3.unimore.it using your SPID credentials. If you have previously been a UNIMORE student, apply directly for admission using the credentials from your previous enrolment
- Register for the admission selection on the portal www.esse3.unimore.it and pay the UNIMORE fee of €25.00, available in Esse3 under “Taxes”, (Fees) by the deadlines indicated in the call for applications, otherwise you will be excluded.
- Check the website https://wss.unimore.it/private/tolc. If you have correctly registered for the admission selection at UNIMORE and paid the required UNIMORE fee (€25.00), you will be able to verify whether the TOLC result and the payment have been recorded. Please note that the website is not updated immediately, but periodically every 2–3 days. Report any discrepancies to the Registrar's Office.
- Wait for the publication of the rankings and, if you are listed as “admitted”, proceed with enrolment and payment of the first instalment of university fees by the deadline indicated in the call for applications.
- If you have not been admitted, submit a second-round selection application by the deadline indicated in the call for applications and check the publication of the rankings to see if you have been admitted through the second-round selection.
- If you are listed as “rejected”, it means that you did not achieve the minimum TOLC score specified in the call for applications.
