More information

The honours degree program in Primary Education is subject to limited enrolment. The Ministry of Education issues an official decree which sets out from year to year the number of places available, the date, the content and the format of the entrance examination. The administrative regulations governing this advanced degree program stipulate those additional academic requirements that candidates must meet should they be provisionally admitted to the program on the basis of examination scores that are lower than those normally required for admission.

Graduates of the honours degree program in Primary Education need to have knowledge and skills in a variety of areas. 1) They must demonstrate familiarity with the theoretical foundations and the languages of the disciplines studied in the program. 2) They must show a critical awareness of the main branches of knowledge within the disciplines of teaching. 3) They must have specific knowledge of teaching as applied to different disciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary contexts of learning. 4) They must have specific knowledge related to the use of multimedia technologies. 5) They must know English to the B2 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). 6) They must be familiar with the research methods used in the different disciplines studied in the program and with their application to the school setting. 7) They must have knowledge and skills related to accommodating students with disabilities, students with specific learning disabilities, and students who may have other schoolrelated difficulties. The degree program will include both lectures and laboratories. Students will also complete training internships where they will gain experience in observing and teaching in classrooms. Students’ performance will be evaluated on the basis of written and oral examinations that are directly connected to their other academic and professional activities.

Graduates of the honours degree in Primary Education must be able to apply the knowledge and skills that they have acquired throughout their program to the professional environment: design educational interventions that meet the complex needs of students, through integrated support that helps individuals and at the same time involves the entire class; these interventions are meant to be planned and carried out in collaboration with colleagues, families and other education professionals within the school district; design flexible and appropriate learning programs that meet the educational needs of all students; plan and teach lessons that take into account both the required learning outcomes and the unique qualities of the students for whom the lessons are intended; foster the intrinsic motivation of students; select, construct and adopt the most appropriate tools for evaluating the processes and products of students’ learning; use relevant teaching technologies in order to facilitate one’s professional work and be able to apply such technologies to the classroom; understand and formulate educational research projects, thereby demonstrating the ability to collect, evaluate and apply the results of empirical research with a view to constructing knowledge and improving teaching practice; work in groups in order to design, plan and evaluate teaching and learning programs. The degree program will include both lectures and laboratories. Students will participate in teaching simulations, create teaching materials, and develop teaching tools for evaluating progress in learning. They will also complete training internships where they will gain experience in observing and teaching in classrooms. Students’ performance will be evaluated on the basis of written and oral examinations, teaching simulations, and internships that are directly connected to their other academic and professional activities.
