As and from the 2001-2002 academic year, at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia the university courses reform will be fully operative. This consists of a system based on two cycles or level, the one sequential to the other. The first cycle, which lasts 3 years, awards a DEGREE, while a further 2 years of study produce a MAGISTRALE DEGREE.
An exception to this is represented by a number of SINGLE CYCLE, or One-Level DEGREE courses lasting 5 or 6 years.

After obtaining a degree, it is possible to attend RESEARCH DOCTORATE, MASTER and PERFECTION courses.
The duration of the study course to obtain these titles can vary between 1, 2 or 3 years. Highly professional training courses lasting 1 or 2 years are also available for obtaining a MASTER degree. These can be accessed after graduation and can be exploited throughout the course of one's life.
